Eyewitness accounts and police findings indicate that both riders were reportedly speeding and using the center of the road at the time of the accident. Irankunda, operating motorcycle registration number UES 919S, died instantly at the scene. Hafashimana, who was on motorcycle UET 873J, was rushed to Mutorele Hospital but died shortly after arrival.

Police quickly arrived at the scene, where Sgt. James Mbabazi led a team in documenting the accident, creating a sketch map, and seizing the motorcycles, which are now held at Kisoro Central Police Station for further examination.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and attributed the likely cause to excessive speed and reckless riding.

“Initial investigations suggest that careless riding and high speed were major contributing factors. We continue to appeal to all road users to be vigilant and strictly adhere to traffic rules to avoid such tragic incidents,” he said.

Baker Batamukoraho, the general secretary of Kisoro United Boda Boda Operators, visited the crash site and expressed grief over the loss.

“We have lost two young, promising individuals. I urge all our members to ride responsibly, reduce speed, and respect road safety guidelines to prevent more tragedies like this,” he said.
