Two police officers have been taken into custody on allegations of neglect of duty, regional police spokesperson Julius Hakiza said. He urged residents to report any information that might assist investigators in tracing the stolen items or identifying the suspects.

Local leaders have warned that the theft could interrupt the ongoing national identity card renewal exercise in the area. Karujubu Division chairperson Solomon Asiimwe called on NIRA to act swiftly to ensure the programme continues without disruption.

Asiimwe also reported a surge in night-time break-ins in the division, saying criminals are increasingly targeting homes and public offices under the cover of darkness. He appealed to the district security committee to intensify patrols to address the growing insecurity.

Karujubu Town Clerk Julius Isingoma added that the assailants tried to access the office of the division accountant but failed to break the lock. District NIRA registrar Suzan Nabunje Kiyengo confirmed the theft but said she could not comment further as investigations are ongoing.
