The business premises were under the protection of two private security guards from Master Guard Security Group. Twesige said the suspected robbers arrived on a motorcycle, armed with a pit axe and other tools believed to have been intended to subdue the guards.

A struggle reportedly broke out, prompting the guards to open fire in self-defense, fatally wounding one of the suspects. One of the guards, Bwambale, suffered an arm injury during the altercation and was later admitted to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.

The other guard, identified as Bagonza, was taken into police custody to aid ongoing investigations. Police recovered several items at the scene, including an SMG rifle loaded with one round in the chamber and another in the magazine, a spent cartridge, a blood-stained pit axe, and a green bag believed to have belonged to the deceased.
