Soldiers Storm Wakiso Police Station, Order Commander to Undress

Tensions ran high at Wakiso Police Division on Monday evening after soldiers allegedly linked to the presidential task taskforce on Land Matters and Environment, under Brig. Moses Lukyamuzi, invaded the station and demanded the release of detainees.

During the confrontation, the soldiers reportedly pointed guns at the division police commander (DPC), SP Esther Kiiza, ordering her to remove her police uniform. They claimed she had disobeyed certain directives.

“They ordered me to undress, accusing me of defying orders. I asked them which orders they were referring to, but they insisted I was under arrest and had to remove the uniform,” Kiiza recounted.

Her firm resistance triggered an immediate response from 13 police officers nearby, who cocked their weapons and surrounded her office, prepared to defend their commander.

The situation prompted the soldiers—ten in total—to retreat and flee the station in their vehicles. The officer in charge quickly contacted Kampala North regional police commander (RPC), SSP Moses Nanoka, who coordinated with Kakiri military barracks for backup.

Soon after, Nanoka and a team of soldiers arrived at Wakiso Police Division but were informed the group had already left. A pursuit was launched, and the soldiers’ vehicles were intercepted at Yesu Amala.

“They refused to exit their vehicles, saying they needed orders from their superiors. We did not accept that reasoning and proceeded to arrest them,” Nanoka stated in a briefing sent to the Kampala Metropolitan police headquarters.

The detained soldiers were not taken to the police station but were instead transferred to Kakiri military barracks for further investigation.

This incident follows another similar event less than a month ago, when Special Forces Command (SFC) officers led by Lt. Samson Amo reportedly assaulted police officers and civilians at Lubowa Police Station. Amo had allegedly pressured the station commander, ASP Innocent Sunday, to detain suspects without proper charges. When Sunday refused, he was slapped, and other officers who intervened were also attacked.

Although police later filed aggravated robbery charges against Amo and his group, the case has stalled, reportedly due to the SFC’s failure to hand over the suspects for prosecution.
