Prosecutor Ivan Kyazze stated that between 2023 and February 2024, the accused posed as Hamis Kiggundu of Hamis Enterprises Ltd. to deceive and defraud individuals in Kampala’s Central Division.
The court heard that on January 29, 2025, Sempa allegedly conned Shs50,000 from Shafic Kawooya by pretending to be Ham and promising to secure a loan on his behalf.
Investigations were prompted when Karim Serugo, the public relations officer of Hamis Enterprises, came across a TikTok account operated by someone impersonating Ham and offering financial help. After engaging the impersonator, Serugo was asked to send a “security” deposit and was given a contact posing as a manager.
Using the provided phone number, authorities tracked and arrested Nandase and Maniharah. The suspects were later detained at the Central Police Station in Kampala. Because they lacked sureties, the court remanded them to Luzira until April 28.
The prosecution noted that investigations into related cases are ongoing and urged the public to remain vigilant against similar scams.
