The legal team for Faridah Nambi Kigongo, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, has accused newly elected Kawempe North MP Elias Nalukoola and his lawyers of bribing three witnesses involved in an ongoing election petition.
Appearing before Justice Bernard Namanya at the High Court’s Civil Division, Nambi’s lead lawyer, Ahmed Mukasa Kalule, claimed that Nalukoola’s legal team improperly influenced witnesses Nathan Kayemba Muwaguzi, George Mawumbe George William, and Ben Mukasa Ntale to withdraw their affidavits—an action he said breaches Rule 19 of the Advocates’ Professional Code of Conduct.

Kalule argued that the appropriate approach would have been to allow the witnesses to be cross-examined in court to assess their credibility. He emphasized that interfering with witnesses undermines legal ethics and the fairness of the judicial process.
He also asked the court to prohibit Nalukoola’s legal team from contacting his witnesses and called for penalties, citing Section 24 of the Advocates Act, which allows immediate sanctions or referral to the Law Council.
Justice Namanya postponed the hearing to May 5 to give Nalukoola time to respond. He also ordered Nalukoola’s team and the Electoral Commission to submit further affidavits by May 9 in preparation for the petition’s preliminary hearing.
These accusations are part of Nambi’s broader challenge to the Kawempe North by-election results, where she alleges electoral misconduct, including vote buying, voter obstruction, and campaigning on polling day. Nalukoola has rejected all claims, and the Electoral Commission insists the election was fair and transparent.
