Police in Nakaseke District are investigating the murder of a cattle trader who was shot dead in what is suspected to be a robbery on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as John Ndaisenga, a 30-year-old cattle trader, whose murder occurred at around 10:30 p.m. in the village of his residence, Kyenshande Village, Kinoni Sub-county.

Savannah Region PRO, Sam Twiinaemazima, disclosed that Ndaisenga was last seen at Omudugudu Trading Centre, where he was spending time with friends before heading home at around 10pm on his motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer, registration number UFB 196Q.

Thirty minutes later, his body was discovered by the roadside with a gunshot wound to the chest, while his motorcycle was found parked in the middle of the road.

Police pointed the attack to a large sum of money the deceased was seen carrying in preparation for Ngoma Market the following day.

“It is alleged that the deceased, a known cattle trader, was seen with large sums of money while making arrangements for business at Ngoma Market,” said ASP Twiineamazima.

“We are still investigating whether the motive was robbery or if the deceased was targeted for other reasons.”

The victim’s body was transported to Ngoma Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination as police continue their hunt for the suspects.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities that could help in the investigation.

“We are doing everything possible to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served,” ASP Twiineamazima added.

Kinoni Sub-county in particular has faced rising crime rates, partly attributed to limited security personnel. The subcounty is reportedly manned by only three police officers, which poses significant challenges in effectively managing and preventing crime.
