According to authorities, Wayengera and his wife, Najabi Christine, were kidnapped on June 10 while returning from a funeral in Mbale. The assailants, dressed in attire resembling Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) uniforms, claimed they were escorting the couple to Mukono Police Station.

However, instead of heading to the police station, the kidnappers diverted to Kyungu Road in Mukono, where Wayengera was murdered. Najabi was later found abandoned in Jinja Misindye, Goma Division, and is currently undergoing medical treatment.

A Toyota Fielder vehicle, registration number UBP 520A, was recovered near where Najabi was found and is now in police custody to aid investigations.

Wayengera’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem. While police have collected witness testimonies, the suspects are still on the run.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the case, noting that inquiries are ongoing and appealing to the public for any relevant information.
