Grief and shock have gripped the Katende Triangle community in Bugembe, Jinja City, after a tragic incident in which a man allegedly set his home on fire, killing his wife and nine-month-old daughter before ending his own life.
Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Edirisa Isabirye, a boda boda rider, who reportedly placed a burning charcoal stove under the bed, igniting a fire that quickly engulfed the room. His wife, 17-year-old Mirabu Kakazi, and their daughter, Mirabu Munana, perished in the blaze.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Following the fire, Isabirye is said to have used a bedsheet to hang himself.
According to Kiira Region Police spokesperson SP James Mubi, preliminary findings indicate the couple had a history of domestic disputes and emotional turmoil.
“Reports suggest their relationship was troubled, with frequent arguments and distress,” Mubi said, urging couples to prioritize mutual respect, communication, and conflict resolution to prevent such tragedies.
He advised individuals in toxic or life-threatening relationships to seek support or professional help rather than allowing conflicts to escalate.
The bodies have been released to their families for burial. Kakazi will be laid to rest in Namagera Town Council, Jinja District, while Isabirye and his daughter will be buried in Bukoma Sub-county, Luuka District.
Authorities are calling on community leaders, religious groups, and families to provide support to those facing domestic struggles and to promote peaceful conflict resolution. The incident underscores the urgent need for mental health awareness, relationship counseling, and timely intervention to prevent similar tragedies.
