Paul Ssaku, a businessman from Lwabayaga zone in Kyabagama sub-county, Gomba district, was found guilty of falsely claiming he would compensate squatters on the late General Aronda Nyakayirima’s land. Instead, he swindled the lawyer out of UGX 120 million.
Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi convicted Ssaku after he reversed his plea and admitted guilt.
The court sentenced Ssaku to 20 months in prison and ordered him to repay the UGX 120 million within five months.
The magistrate further ruled that if Ssaku fails to reimburse the amount, his property will be seized to ensure the lawyer recovers his money.
