The child’s mother, Prossy Mbabazi, recounted that she had left her daughter in her husband’s care while she went to graze cattle.

“At around 1 p.m., I returned home but noticed my daughter, who normally comes to welcome me, was nowhere in sight,” Mbabazi said.

She found the bedroom door locked and, after getting no response, forced it open. Inside, she found her daughter lying on the bed and noticed fresh bloodstains on the bedsheets.

“When I asked my husband what had happened, he didn’t say a word. He just ran away,” she added.

Mbabazi raised an alarm, prompting neighbors to chase and apprehend the suspect from a nearby bush. He was handed over to the police.

Kayunga District Police Commander Rosette Sikahwa confirmed that a medical examination revealed the child had been defiled, leading to severe injuries.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated defilement. Sikahwa also noted that six defilement cases were reported in Nazigo Sub-county in the previous month alone.
