Death is everywhere, so the saying goes; a man in Kamuli District has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and killing a 15-year-old pupil over sugarcane.
Jonan Balisanyuka, the suspect, is accused of attacking Mathias Bakaki, a thieving pupil, causing his death.

Police report that the incident occurred on March 19, 2025, at around 5pm in Kibeto-Buyima Zone, Luzinga Parish, Wankoole Sub-county.
The story goes, Bakaki and his friends were returning home from school when they came across a heap of sugarcane under Balisanyuka’s watch. The children then began their thieving attempt, which was reproached by the suspect, chasing them away.
Surprisingly, Bakaki reportedly did not flee, leading to a confrontation.
Reports add that Balisanyuka then took matters to the court of strength, physically assaulting the pupil, causing him to collapse unconscious. The child was rushed to a nearby clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Busoga North Region Police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the arrest, stating that investigations are ongoing to establish the full details of the incident.
