Ramadhan Ngobi, the head of Nakazigo Primary School in Mayuge District, has been charged with embezzlement and abuse of office after allegedly stealing Shs176 million meant for school infrastructure.
The soon-to-retire 58-year-old Ugandan primary school headteacher appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court on Monday but did not enter a plea.

The presiding magistrate, Christopher Opit, remanded him to Luzira Prison and set March 25 for his plea and bail application.
Representing Uganda’s Inspectorate of Government (IG) were prosecutors Mikka Luteete and William Ntumwaallege, who alleged that between February and October 2021, Ngobi withdrew funds from the school’s bank account at Stanbic Bank.
This money had been allocated for the construction of two classrooms and a five-stance VIP latrine but was never used for its intended purpose.
The prosecution contended that Ngobi “stole Shs176 million from Nakazigo Primary School, funds he had access to “by virtue of his office.”
He was then accused of using his position to commit “arbitrary acts prejudicial to the interests of his employer.”
Ngobi will remain in custody until his next court appearance. If convicted, he faces up to 14 years in prison under Uganda’s anti-corruption laws.
