Hundreds of worshippers filled Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale on Sunday to witness the ordination of four priests and eight deacons in a ceremony led by Bishop Callist Rubaramira.
In his homily, Bishop Rubaramira urged the new clergy to remain steadfast in their vocation and to serve both God and the community with commitment.
“Do not compromise Christian values. Let your priesthood be a true reflection of sacrifice, love, and faith. Avoid distractions and remain rooted in the Word of God,” he told the ordinands.

The bishop also expressed gratitude to the families of the newly ordained for supporting their children’s decision to join the priesthood. He announced that the priests and deacons would be given a month-long break before receiving formal appointments from his office.
Those ordained as priests were Fr Stephen Niwandinda, Fr Onesmus Ahabwe, Fr Frank Atuzarirwe, and Fr Mark Aheisibwe. The deacons included Sostine Mugisha, Justus Turyatunga, Deusdedit Niwagaba, Adon Aturinde, Ivan Ndamira, Peregrino Beinomugisha, Syrus Aharizira, and Cyril Arthur Ayebazibwe.
The diocese’s Vocations Director, Fr Kenneth Birungi, commended Christians for their financial contributions towards training clergy, noting that each seminarian requires around UGX 3 million annually to cover both academic and spiritual needs. He called for continued support to enable more candidates to complete their studies.
Speaking on behalf of the newly ordained, Fr Onesmus Ahabwe thanked parishioners and church leaders for their prayers and encouragement throughout their journey.
The event was also attended by political leaders including MPs Dr Nicholas Kamara, Wilfred Niwagaba, and Catherine Ndamira, who congratulated the new clergy. Ms Ndamira urged Christians to prioritise education for their children, describing it as an investment not only for families and the church but also for the country.
