“I have your bodyguard what will you do?” – Muhoozi to Bobi

President Museveni’s son and Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has admitted to detaining Eddie Mutwe, the chief bodyguard of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), days after Mutwe was allegedly abducted by Special Forces Command (SFC) operatives in Mukono.

In a series of controversial posts on X (formerly Twitter), Muhoozi confirmed Mutwe was being held in his basement, forced to salute President Museveni’s portrait daily and learn Runyankore. One post included a photo of a half-naked Mutwe, alongside taunts aimed at Kyagulanyi, who recently announced another presidential bid for 2026.

“I haven’t started. Next is Kabobi [Kyagulanyi]. If he abuses anyone in my family again, Eddie will suffer even more,” Muhoozi wrote, stirring fresh concerns over political repression.

Mutwe’s abduction was first reported by Kyagulanyi and the Leader of Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, who said he was violently taken by armed men in a “drone” van — commonly used in past enforced disappearances.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke told journalists he was unaware of Mutwe’s whereabouts, raising further alarm over illegal detentions.

Mutwe has long been a target of state crackdowns on opposition supporters, especially during elections. His recent arrest coincided with security sealing off NUP headquarters, where the party had planned to launch a youth protest vote campaign. Police banned the event, warning against any participation.

This latest incident, paired with the recent assault on a Kampala police station by UPDF soldiers, has reignited fears of increased violence and repression as Uganda heads toward the 2026 elections.
