Five people lost their lives and six others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred on Sunday evening in Kyalweza Village, Wabinyonyi Subcounty, along the Kampala-Gulu Highway.
The crash, which happened around 8:30 PM, involved two vehicles—a Toyota Hiace (registration number UA 415AV) and a Nissan Diesel truck (registration number UBL 615T), both white in color and reportedly driven by unidentified individuals.

According to ASP Sam TwiineAmazima, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, early findings indicate that the Toyota Hiace, speeding from the Kampala direction, drifted out of its lane and collided head-on with the Nissan heading from Gulu.
The impact killed five people instantly, while six others suffered serious injuries. The wounded were rushed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV and Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment. The deceased were taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for postmortem examinations.
Police are still working to confirm the identities of both the dead and the injured, and efforts to reach their families are ongoing.
Both vehicles have been towed to the Katuugo Police Park Yard for further examination.
Authorities are once again urging motorists to observe road safety measures, particularly along the Kampala-Gulu Highway, which has seen a rising number of fatal accidents.
