Children of Alleged Ritual Sacrifice Victim Living in Fear After Arrest of Former Jinja Official

The children of the late Jessica Mutesi, believed by police to have been a victim of ritual sacrifice, say they are now living in constant fear after the arrest of former Jinja City Education Officer Ms. Amina Mutesi, who is a suspect in the case.

Jackson Kalimu Grace, one of Jessica’s elder sons, told this publication that concerned neighbors and friends had advised them to leave their home in Masese III, Walukuba, in Jinja City, due to safety concerns.

“We’re terrified and emotionally devastated,” Kalimu shared. “People close to us urged that I relocate my siblings from the house we shared with our mother. With some suspects still at large, we fear they could target us next.”

He added that he took the warnings seriously and followed the advice, though he declined to reveal their new location for safety reasons.

Kalimu said life has become extremely hard since their mother’s death. She was their emotional pillar and the primary caregiver to one of his younger brothers, who lives with a disability. Her loss, he said, has left a painful and irreplaceable gap in their lives.

Ssezibwa Region Police Spokesperson Ms. Hellen Butoto confirmed that three suspects have been detained so far, including Ms. Amina Mutesi, who is currently being held at Njeru Police Station in Buikwe District.

“Our investigations are still ongoing as other suspects remain on the run. Once the process is complete, the arrested individuals will be taken to court,” Ms. Butoto stated.

Case Background
Jessica Mutesi disappeared on April 24, 2025, after being offered a fake gardening job in Buwampa Village, Nyenga Division, Njeru Municipality. Her son had last seen her at Gaddafi Barracks Roundabout in Jinja City, after which she vanished.

Weeks later, the family received a false assurance that Jessica would be released in exchange for Shs2 million, only to later discover she had been killed in what police suspect was a ritual sacrifice.

Her remains were found buried in the compound of Ms. Amina Mutesi in Buwampa Village. The body was exhumed and handed over to the family, and Jessica was buried on June 7, 2025, in Nsoziribri Village, Buyanga Sub-county, Bugweri District.
