Police in Kawempe are investigating a daring robbery that left a businessman counting losses after being ambushed in broad daylight.
Fred Tibamanya, a 49-year-old businessman from Kawanda in Wakiso District who fell victim to the robbery, narrates that,
“When I reached Maganjo, I was encircled by men on three motorcycles during the jam. They seemed to have trailed me from the bank and saw me place the money inside the car. They smashed my car window on the side where the bag was and vanished with it.”

Tibamanya was driving a Toyota Harrier UBN 789W and described the robbery as swift. He added that he had no way to defend himself in the traffic jam. Fellow drivers who witnessed the incident had little time to intervene.
He later reported the case at Kampala North Regional Police headquarters in Kawempe. Officers managing Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras were tasked with tracing the robbers’ movements.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Patrick Onyango, speaking to reporters, said, “However, while driving along Bombo Road at Maganjo, he was attacked by a group of men riding on three motorcycles.”
“Armed with pangas, the robbers smashed the vehicle’s windows while the car was stuck in traffic, seizing a bag containing the money and other documents.”
“These thugs only wanted the money. They dumped the bag containing Tibamanya’s documents, including land titles, near Kyadondo Hospital. We are investigating the incident with assistance from sister security agencies,” Onyango added.
This is the latest in a worrying trend of armed heists targeting individuals withdrawing large sums from banks.
Last week, Francis Mubarak was similarly robbed of Shs 30 million shortly after withdrawing money at 6th Street, Industrial Area. Mubarak said the robbers, riding on three motorcycles, had parked outside the bank and attacked him moments after he boarded a boda boda.
