A death and several injuries resulted following a bus crash at Oleba Village in Maracha District, when the driver lost control after reportedly being attacked by a swarm of bees.
Police identified the deceased as Bosco Nyeko Bongomin, the driver of the Yumbe District-bound bus and vehicle belonging to Nile Star Bus Company.
Maracha District police commander Swaibu Taban confirmed the incident, saying, “Very unfortunate situation this evening. We registered one fatal accident involving a Nile Star bus, which overturned with all passengers. We only registered one fatality, and others are being evacuated to different facilities for first aid and good medication.”

However, it took traffic and first responders more than an hour to retrieve Bongomin’s body from the wreckage as bees remained hovering over the area for some time.
Bongomin’s body was later taken to Maracha Hospital for a postmortem, and police attributed the cause of the accident to either fatigue or speeding.
“The injured have been taken to different facilities in Maracha, Arua, Yumbe, and Koboko because ambulances from different organizations are helping us. For now, we are suspecting that the cause of the accident could be overspeeding or fatigue,” Taban added.
Mr. Twalib Abdulrahman, Nile Star Bus Company operation manager, Arua office, said the bus left Arua for Yumbe at 3:30pm with 27 passengers on board before the crash happened.
