Bobi’s Bodyguard Eddy Mutwe Reportedly Abducted, Police Block NUP Presser

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mr Joel Ssenyonyi, said on Sunday that Robert Kyagulanyi’s chief civilian bodyguard, Edward Ssebufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, was “abducted by armed men in a drone” from Mukono.

“The ongoing collapse of the rule of law in Uganda should worry all right-thinking people,” Mr Ssenyonyi said.

Mr Kyagulanyi, who recently announced plans to challenge President Museveni again in the 2026 elections, also condemned the alleged abduction, said to have occurred at Kiwango village. By press time, police had not commented on Ssebufu’s disappearance.

Ssebufu has previously faced multiple arrests and charges, including treason and illegal possession of ammunition — accusations opposition leaders say are politically driven.

Forced disappearances and violent arrests of opposition supporters have been reported around the 2021 elections, with some victims later surfacing in court or being found abandoned and tortured.

Meanwhile, police blocked the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) weekly press conference scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Kampala.

In a statement posted on X, police said the decision was made to maintain public order, warning against participation in the planned launch of a youth protest vote campaign.

Mr. Kyagulanyi criticized the move, accusing the police of operating with double standards.
“The partisan regime police are blocking our press conference where we planned to launch our mobilization for the youth elections. We strongly condemn and resist these actions,” he said.

The crackdown follows recent police efforts to halt NUP’s countrywide mobilization tours, citing traffic disruption concerns.
