In broad daylight, robbers armed with pangas attacked two betting companies in Nateete, taking an unspecified amount of money.
Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy police spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan, recounted that the thugs attacked two Fortebet betting centres in Nateete at around 11:30am on Monday.
“It is alleged that the group armed with pangas attacked a Fortebet betting point along Nateete-Ndeba road and robbed an unspecified amount of money. From there, they then proceeded to another Fortebet point at Nateete Business Center along the same road and still robbed more money,” Owoyesigyire stated.

He continued that while the thugs were still in the building, police at Nateete station were notified, and a team was dispatched to respond to the incident.
“Upon seeing the police, one Benard Kayongo Nadumba who was on the ground tried to run away but was shot at in order to neutralize him. He fell down where he was arrested and then rushed to Mulago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after some hours.”
Owoyesigyire said Nadumba’s associates fled the scene with the cash they had robbed from the two betting points but said efforts to trace them are gaining traction.
He said a case of aggravated robbery has been registered and statements obtained from witnesses, while a team of police ICT officers is also on the ground to retrieve CCTV footage from both scenes as inquiries continue.
