Police in southwestern Uganda are investigating the death of a 25-year-old woman who was reportedly beaten to death by her husband in Kisoro District.
The incident happened on the night of 13 September in Gishondori Village, Muramba Sub-county. The victim, identified as Anna Fayida, a mother of three, is said to have been attacked by her 21-year-old husband, Turinayo Besigye.

Local officials said they were alerted by Besigye’s brother, who called the village chairperson around 9pm to report the killing.
Village leader Sigwa Simon described the suspect as a habitual offender who had been arrested several times before. “He has been a known troublemaker in this community,” he told reporters.
Fayida’s mother, Jesca Nyirabarera, said she learnt of her daughter’s death while returning from a nearby trading centre. “They told me my daughter had been killed,” she said.
Family members allege that Besigye had been quarrelling with his wife over her refusal to have a child with him. He is reported to have admitted to police that he wanted children of his own.
The couple’s dispute reportedly escalated into violence earlier that evening, during which Besigye’s brother tried to intervene but was also attacked.
Police homicide detectives visited the scene, collected evidence and later transferred the body to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
According to the 2024 national crime report, Uganda recorded more than 4,300 homicide cases in a year, with an average of 26 people killed daily through murders or accidents.
