Minister Namuganza Rejects Viral ‘Social Media’ NRM Results as Fake and Misleading

In Bukono County, the State Minister for Urbanisation and area MP, Persis Namuganza, has questioned the authenticity of Declaration of Results (DR) forms circulating on social media, which indicate her rival, Maganda Katooko, won the NRM primaries with over 32,000 votes. These forms, which allegedly show Namuganza trailing with about 17,000 votes, have stirred controversy among voters in Namutumba District, but the minister has called on the public to disregard the documents, citing them as unofficial and unverified.

Namuganza emphasized that the NRM operates through formal procedures and advised supporters to wait for official communication. The vote tallying in Namutumba was suspended by AIGP Moses Kafeero, the NRM commander for the Busoga region, due to reported irregularities. As a result, all DR forms were moved to NRM headquarters in Kampala for re-tallying, in consultation with the party’s Electoral Commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi.

The delay in releasing official results has led to public unrest, including protests, roadblocks, and the burning of party merchandise. The uncertainty has further escalated after conflicting DR forms emerged in the neighboring Busiki constituency, showing contradictory outcomes between incumbent Paul Akamba and challenger Joel Azalwa.

Namuganza attributes the turmoil to internal political sabotage, suggesting that powerful elements within the party are working to undermine her career. She cited past tensions in parliament and internal party politics as potential motivations for the alleged plot.

Similar concerns were raised by Betty Nakisita, a candidate for the Namutumba District Woman MP seat, who also claimed irregularities and deliberate suppression of legitimate winners. Nakisita warned that the prolonged delay risks eroding public confidence in the party, especially in areas like Namutumba that have historically supported the NRM.

In response to the growing tension, district registrar Richard Mwanjja urged patience, stating that party authorities are handling the matter, though he gave no clear timeline or details.
