NIRA Launches Nationwide Campaign to Strengthen National Identity and Citizenship Pride

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has initiated a countrywide campaign focused on reinforcing national identity and fostering a sense of citizenship among Ugandans.

Launched under the theme “I Am NIN-ED, I Am Ugandan,” the campaign was officially introduced at Uganda Police Headquarters in Naguru. It highlights the importance of every Ugandan acquiring a National Identification Number (NIN) not just for legal recognition, but also to enhance individual belonging and collective national pride.

According to NIRA registrar Claire Ollama, the campaign seeks to unite citizens from all ethnic backgrounds by celebrating cultural diversity as a foundation for national unity. She urged Ugandans to embrace both their tribal identities and their shared citizenship, encouraging widespread participation in the registration process.

The initiative also serves as a call to action for communities to support national development by securing their NINs, which are essential for accessing services and participating in public planning. Overall, the campaign emphasizes the role of identity registration in building an inclusive and culturally rich Ugandan society.
