According to Maj. (Rtd.) David Matovu, the Buikwe Resident District Commissioner (RDC), who visited the scene alongside police detectives, Kifumba was attacked on the night of Saturday, April 26, around 9 p.m. while returning home.
A detective close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that after closing his shop, Kifumba took a boda boda ride toward his home in Kibali Village. However, shortly before reaching his destination, he asked the rider to let him off.
As he proceeded on foot, he was ambushed by thugs armed with machetes and a gun. The attackers demanded money, and when Kifumba resisted, they cut his hand and fatally shot him in the chest.
The assailants escaped with a bag containing cash and a mobile phone.
Local residents who heard the commotion found Kifumba lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to Nkokonjeru Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Condemning the brutal act, the RDC urged anyone with information about the crime to assist the police in tracking down the perpetrators.
“I urge you all to stay calm as investigations continue to find those responsible for this terrible act,” he said.
The body was transported for a postmortem examination, and as of now, no suspects have been arrested.
