Suspected Soda Poisoning Claims Another Child in Serere

A somber mood has engulfed Kamurojo-Moru village in Kyere sub-county, Serere district, following the death of a five-year-old boy, Isaac Ecodu, who reportedly died on April 12, 2025, after consuming a soda suspected to have been poisoned.

Family members say the soda was given to Isaac by his father, Calvin Ebinu, who had allegedly bought two bottles from a nearby trading center the night before.

Ebinu, 28, told authorities he found the children asleep at their grandfather’s home and opted to give them the sodas the next morning before heading out to seek medical attention for himself.

Tragically, Isaac died shortly after consuming the drink. His two brothers, who also drank the soda, were rushed to a nearby health facility in critical condition.

The incident follows a similar tragedy in Kangodo, within the same sub-county, where seven-year-old Becky Amoding recently died under similar circumstances after reportedly drinking a poisoned soda.

A district Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer, speaking anonymously to Etop Radio, confirmed that investigations are underway, though details remain limited.

Meanwhile, authorities have taken the father into custody for questioning as inquiries into the source and nature of the alleged poisoning continue.
