Police in Nyendo, Masaka City, have detained three individuals — a school matron and two security guards — in connection with two suspected arson incidents at Kako Secondary School.
According to Twaha Kasirye, spokesperson for the Greater Masaka Region Police, both fires targeted Matovu Dormitory, which accommodates 17 Senior Two female students.

The first fire broke out on April 9, 2025, at around 8:00am while students were attending class, destroying mattresses, uniforms, books, and other personal items.
A second fire ignited in the same dormitory in the early hours of April 11, around 2:00am.
Teams from the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Fire Brigade visited the scene, gathered statements from students and staff, and collected ash samples for forensic testing.
The suspects — Denis Aguta, Emmanuel Okecho, and Agnes Naluwu — are currently assisting with investigations.
Police say inquiries under case reference CRB 256/2025 are still ongoing as they seek to determine the cause and motive behind the twin fires.
