Two Killed in PokoPoko Bus Crash in Mubende

A tragic accident occurred on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, when a bus operated by PokoPoko Coaches Ltd. overturned on the Mubende–Fort Portal highway near Biwanga. The incident, which took place around 2:20 PM, was reportedly caused by a front tire burst, leading the bus to veer off the road and overturn. At least ten people are feared dead, and dozens of others sustained injuries, some critically.

The bus, bearing registration number UBR 796N, was carrying over 50 passengers at the time of the accident. Emergency responders rushed the injured to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. Rescue operations were ongoing as authorities worked to retrieve bodies trapped under the wreckage.

Police have initiated an investigation into the crash to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors. Preliminary reports suggest that the tire burst was a significant factor in the accident.

This incident adds to a series of road accidents involving PokoPoko buses in recent months, raising concerns about road safety and vehicle maintenance standards in the region.
