The Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has remanded Daniel Silungo, a security guard with Saracen Security Company Limited, to Luzira Prison on murder charges.
Silungo, 30, a resident of Naguru in Nakawa Division, Kampala, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi, who charged him with the murder of Hassan Solomon Ntambi.

As murder is a capital offense punishable by death upon conviction, the magistrate did not allow Silungo to plead but advised him to seek bail from the High Court, which has jurisdiction over such cases. He was remanded until March 4, 2025, as investigations continue.
According to the prosecution, Silungo unlawfully killed Ntambi on February 19, 2025, at Mukwano Arcade in Central Division, Kampala, with premeditated intent.
In his statement, Silungo admitted to shooting Ntambi following a dispute over a blocked vehicle. He claimed Ntambi refused to move and, when confronted, grabbed his gun. Silungo, who had been on permanent night duty since 2023, alleged that Ntambi punched him, prompting him to fire a close-range shot to the stomach. He later turned himself in at Mini Price Police Station.
Court records show that Mini Price officer-in-charge ASP Joseph Muliika was informed of the incident by police constable Gerald Isabirye, who had received intel from crime intelligence officer Sgt Faridah Nampiima. Muliika and Isabirye rushed to the scene, initially treating the case as attempted murder before upgrading it to murder.
The shooting occurred outside Shop 30, owned by Nogga Allan, Ntambi’s employer. A boda boda rider rushed the victim to Mengo Hospital.
Police documented the crime scene and recovered the firearm, which had four live rounds. The weapon was handed over to detective AIP Henry Ojolo, the scene-of-crime officer.
Gun violence remains a major concern in Uganda, involving both state and private security personnel. The most recent incident took place during the Kawempe North by-election nominations, where security forces injured several people, including Top TV journalist Ibrahim Miracle, whose face was severely disfigured.
Earlier, on January 30, 2025, a shooting at Shumuk Aluminium Limited in Nakawa Division resulted in three deaths, including the shooter. Emmanuel Machugayi, a security guard with Ryayo Security Group Ltd, killed his colleagues Ashiraf Kakyebezi, 21, and Stephen Owechi before taking his own life.
