Kawempe North MP Elias Nalukoola has declared his intention to sue journalists who claimed that all 529 members of Parliament received Shs100 million from President Museveni as a reward for passing the controversial 2024 Coffee Amendment Bill.

Nalukoola, who was recently elected in the Kawempe North by-election, dismissed the allegations, stating he had not received any such funds and found the claim ridiculous, especially considering his short time in office.

“How can someone who has been in Parliament for less than two weeks be given Shs100 million as appreciation?” he asked.

He firmly denied receiving the alleged payout and said he is considering legal action against those spreading falsehoods.

“As a lawyer and legislator, I cannot allow such misinformation to go unchecked. I’m exploring legal options against the journalists claiming we all got the money.”

Representing the National Unity Platform (NUP), Nalukoola is known for his strong stance on human rights, constitutionalism, and rule of law. His remarks come amid growing controversy over the bill, which has sparked allegations of bribery in Parliament.

His swearing-in was initially delayed due to a gazettement issue, with critics blaming the Electoral Commission for the hold-up. He was officially gazetted on March 24, 2025, clearing the way for him to assume his parliamentary duties.

Nalukoola’s response underscores the ongoing debate around legislative integrity and transparency in Uganda’s Parliament.
