Kitagwenda Councillor’s Home Set on Fire Over Child Sacrifice Accusations

The residential house belonging to Levi Amarakutunga, the district councillor representing persons with disabilities (PWDs) and gospel singer suspected of child sacrifice, has been set alight.

Police in Kitagwenda District have launched an investigation into the fire.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday, a day after Amarakutunga and three others were remanded over allegations of kidnapping, murdering, and sacrificing a four-year-old girl, Trinah Ainomugisha.

The house, located in Kanyara village, Kikondo Ward, Kabujogera Town Council, was discovered ablaze by local leaders and passersby.

The female councillor representing Kikondo Ward, Mary Mugizi, said she was alerted about the fire by the officer in charge at Kabujogera Police Post.

“I rushed to the scene and found Amarakutunga’s house engulfed in flames. It was shocking, and I immediately alerted the authorities,” Mugizi narrated.

Eyewitnesses, who preferred anonymity, alleged that they saw the house burning but could not identify the culprits.

Police had initially deployed officers to guard the suspect’s property following his arrest but withdrew after the situation appeared to have calmed down.

Kitagwenda District Police Commander SP Bashir Bakulumpagi condemned the act of mob justice and assured the public that investigations were ongoing.

“We urge residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. We have intensified investigations to identify those responsible for the fire,” SP Bakulumpagi stated.

Amarakutunga, the prime suspect, and his co-accused, Radius Tumusiime (30), Deus Kakuru (28), and Nicholus Asingura (18), appeared before the Kamwenge Grade One Magistrate on Wednesday. They were charged with kidnap, murder, and human sacrifice before being remanded to Katojo Government Prison in Kabarole District. Their case is set for hearing on April 14, 2025, in the High Court.
