Independent candidate Moses Nsereko, who contested in the recently concluded Kawempe North MP by-election, has declared his intention to challenge the results in court.
The by-election, held on Thursday, saw National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Elias Nalukoola secure a landslide victory with 17,764 votes. His closest competitor, Faridah Nambi of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), garnered 8,593 votes, while Nsereko managed only 32.

Following the announcement of results, a visibly disappointed Nsereko criticized the election process and vowed to seek legal redress.
“I’m taking this matter to court. Justice should be sought through legal means, not force. Let the court decide how this unfolds,” he stated.
Nsereko had initially vied for the NUP ticket but lost to Nalukoola in the primaries. Undeterred, he chose to run as an independent, much like fellow candidate Muhammad Luwemba Lusswa.
Throughout his campaign, Nsereko used theatrical tactics to appeal to voters and often claimed he had stronger grassroots support than Nalukoola, despite the latter securing the NUP endorsement.
However, the final results painted a different picture, as Nsereko’s support was significantly lower than expected.
With Nalukoola’s victory, he now assumes the seat previously held by the late Muhammad Segirinya, who passed away in January.
