“I Am the MP-Elect—The Rest Are Just Wasting Their Time!” – Moses Nsereko

During the NBS Television debate for the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election, candidate Moses Nsereko exuded confidence, leaving no doubt about his belief in an inevitable victory.

Brimming with self-assurance, he declared, “I’m a celebrity. I’m the MP-elect. The rest are just wasting their time. I’m the best candidate.”

Nsereko’s political path has been anything but straightforward. Initially seeking the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, he secured only 14.2% of the vote, ranking ninth out of ten candidates. The NUP nomination ultimately went to lawyer Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, who dominated with 71.4%.

Undeterred, Nsereko opted to run as an independent. His nomination process was not without drama—he was first turned away for not meeting the signature requirements but later returned with the necessary documents.

In a symbolic act, he wore two jackets on nomination day, one belonging to his late father, claiming it carried blessings for his campaign.

As the March 13 by-election approaches, only time will tell if his confidence translates into votes.
