Husband Pleads for Release of Wife that Attempted to Murder Him, Released

Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court hosted a comedy show after a man made a heartfelt appeal to the court to release his wife, who was accused of attempting to murder him.

Vincent Muhirwe pleaded for leniency towards his wife, Carolyn Tumwesigye, 27, a mobile money agent while appearing before Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi on Friday.

“I have already forgiven her because of my faith and at the request of her parents,” Muhirwe told the court. “She is not good at public speaking, and I need her back home. I have no one to cook for me or even prepare my fruits. Hunger is taking a toll on me, and I long to return home with my wife.”

Tumwesigye was facing charges of attempted murder under Section 187(a) of the Penal Code Act, and theft under Sections 237(1) and 244 of the same Act.

At first, Tumwesigye claimed in court that she had mistakenly cut her husband’s arm, believing it was a snake.

Only for her lawyer to reveal that Muhirwe had accused her of infidelity after she spent a night away attending a birthday celebration organized by a male friend.

The court heard that when Tumwesigye returned home, her husband verbally abused her throughout the night.

Feeling humiliated and enraged, she allegedly attacked him with a panga, inflicting a deep cut on his left arm.

Prosecution, led by Ivan Kyazze, stated that the incident occurred on January 24, 2025, in Kiwatule, Kampala.

The quarrel escalated into violence, resulting in Muhirwe sustaining injuries and losing Shs 7.3 million, which Tumwesigye allegedly took from him.

Muhirwe’s cries for help alerted neighbors, who rushed him to the hospital and later assisted in reporting the case to the police.

Chief Magistrate Kayizzi, after considering the husband’s plea, granted Tumwesigye a caution instead of a jail sentence.

“Because she is a first-time offender, has not wasted the court’s time, and the complainant has asked for forgiveness, I am sentencing her to a caution,” Kayizzi ruled.

“Do not come back here when she cuts you again,” he added.

Tumwesigye was subsequently released, and the couple left the courtroom together.
