The medical community is faced with tragedy after a doctor lost his life in an accident.
The road accident at Awoja Bridge along the Mbale-Soroti highway in the early hours of Sunday claimed the life of Dr. Jacob Odongo, a 49-year-old resident of Dodoi, Kamacha Sub-county in Kumi District. Martha Atai, a passenger, sustained life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary police reports indicate that Dr. Odongo was driving towards Soroti when he lost control of the vehicle after crossing the bridge, veering into the path of the oncoming bus driven by Stanley Ochen.
The crash, which occurred around 12:20am, involved a Kakise Bus Company Isuzu, registration number UAZ 415X, and a Toyota Hilux double cabin, UAJ 660D.
While the impact was fatal for Dr. Odongo, his passenger survived and was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
No injuries were reported among the bus passengers.
Soroti Central Police Station officers, led by ASP Justus Habyara, responded to the scene, transporting the deceased’s body to the city mortuary for postmortem.
Regional Police Commander Damalie Nachuha mentioned that both vehicles had been towed to Soroti CPS for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
