Chinese National Sentenced to 7 Years by Buganda Road Court for Shs 1bn Theft

Gambling, or rather akapapula, as commonly known, has landed an expatriate in a Ugandan jail. The former general manager of China North Machine Company Limited has been sentenced to seven years in prison by Buganda Road Court.

Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi presided over the ruling that convicted the 38-year-old Chinese national. Wang Libao Jack was found guilty of stealing shs 1 billion from his then employer, China North Machine Company Limited.

During the court session, the state attorney disclosed that Wang abused his position by withdrawing company funds without authorization and using the money for gambling at a casino.

During the ruling, Wang declined to plead for a reduced sentence, stating, “I will not mitigate; I request to remain silent.”

The court ruled that Wang serves seven years in prison for the offenses committed. Additionally, he has been ordered to compensate the company with shs 515 million.

Mr. Wang served as the general manager of the company and resided at Spring Road, Central Division, Kampala.
