Ssenyondo denied the charge and was informed of his right to apply for bail. Through his lawyer, he stated that the case is bailable, that he has a fixed place of abode, three substantial sureties, and that he is a father with two young school-going children.
The prosecuting party, led by Mr. Allan Mucunguzi, told the court that investigations were complete but requested more time to respond to Ssenyondo’s bail application.
“We have heard the application, but we cannot present a reply yet. We need to verify the documents presented,” Mr. Mucunguzi countered.
The Chief Magistrate agreed with the prosecution’s request and adjourned the matter to February 14.
It is alleged that on February 2, 2025, at Mezo Bar in Kololo, Kampala, Ssenyondo unlawfully assaulted Kisha Shamilah Kavuma, causing her actual bodily harm.
Court documents stated that Shamila Kavuma outing at Mezo Bar went to the washroom, where she encountered Jovia Nansamba Bukanya.
Nansamba began recording a video of her. On Kavuma asking why she was being filmed, Nansamba reportedly answered that she was admiring her jeans.
Reportedly, Kavuma instructed Nansamba to delete the video, which she did. However, after that, Nansamba entered the washroom, followed by her boyfriend, Ssenyondo, who allegedly began assaulting Kavuma.
“It is therefore suspected that Nansamba called her boyfriend. After that, Kavuma came and reported the matter to police for assistance. Ssenyondo was summoned for his statement, and hence he was charged accordingly for assault,” reads in part the court document.
