Bus Driver Flees Scene After Fatal Crash Claims One Life

Police in West Nile are actively searching for the driver of a Divine Coach Company bus that overturned along the Yumbe-Moyo road, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuring dozens of others.

The deceased has been identified as Mazini Deru, a 70-year-old resident of Origini village in Kei Sub County, Yumbe district.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the bus, bearing registration number UAB 684T, was carrying over 60 passengers en route from Arua City to Adjumani when the accident occurred. The driver’s identity has been withheld.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus lost control upon reaching Boyo, between Yumbe and Moyo, crashing onto the pavement before overturning.

West Nile Police Spokesperson Collins Asea confirmed that a case of reckless driving causing death has been registered against the driver.

This incident comes just two months after a Nilestar bus traveling from Kampala to Arua, Koboko, and Yumbe lost control and veered off the road in Maracha, killing the driver instantly and leaving several passengers injured.
