A man who had been reported missing in Jinja has been found dead under suspicious circumstances. The decomposing body of 28-year-old Michael Kajugo was discovered in a swamp located in Buwenge Sub-county, Jinja District, five days after he was last seen.

He was last seen on Saturday outside his residence in Kalebela Village, Buwenge Sub-county, but never returned home, prompting his family to report his disappearance to Buwenge Central Police Station.

His mother, Scovia Nabirye, said Kajugo’s phones went unanswered, raising alarm. She noted that he worked as a casual laborer and was known to return home daily, making his prolonged absence deeply concerning.

Nabirye is now calling on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.

Kiira Region Police Spokesperson James Mubi confirmed the discovery and said detectives have returned to the scene to search for potential evidence.

Mubi highlighted the efforts of the Kiira regional police in dismantling criminal gangs over the last six months and reiterated their ongoing commitment to promoting safety and security through community sensitization.
