Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao has announced that Dr. Kizza Besigye will appear before a civilian court on Wednesday, where judges will determine the next steps in his case.
This comes as concerns grow over Besigye’s deteriorating health due to his seven-day hunger strike, during which he has only consumed water. Medical professionals attending to him are increasingly alarmed, as they are hesitant to administer medication while he refuses to eat.

“His health has worsened, and doctors are afraid to give him medicine in his current state,” Mao stated.
He also criticized Besigye’s legal team for failing to obtain a Supreme Court decree and instead politicizing the matter. His remarks sparked outrage among legislators, leading Speaker Anita Among to suspend the House for a private discussion with ministers and opposition members.
After the closed-door meeting, Speaker Among directed ministers to closely monitor the situation and report back by 4 PM. Upon reconvening, Mao reiterated that Besigye would face trial in a civilian court, where judges would determine the way forward.
“We will take him before the civilian court, and the judges will decide the next course of action,” Mao confirmed.
