Police in northern Uganda have launched investigations into the murder of a laboratory technician at Gulu University, who was attacked and killed in the early hours of Friday morning in Gulu City.
The victim, identified as 40-year-old Chris Nyeko, was employed at the university and was reportedly assaulted near St Peter’s Catholic Church in Forest Cell, Pece Prisons Ward, Laroo-Pece Division.
Police say Nyeko had been last seen on Thursday night at a local entertainment venue, D-Plus Pub, located a short distance from both the university and the crime scene.

According to the Aswa West Police spokesperson, ASP David Ongom Mudong, preliminary findings suggest the deceased was attacked while walking home at around 5:40am.
He said investigators believe Nyeko may have been involved in a disagreement at the place he had been drinking from, which could have led his attackers to follow him.
Residents living near the scene reportedly heard screams during the incident, suggesting a struggle before the killing. Police also believe the attackers may have searched the victim and stolen some of his belongings, including a mobile phone.
Nyeko’s body was later found lying in a pool of blood on the roadside, with a deep head wound suspected to have been caused by a sharp object.
Police homicide officers and Scene of Crime personnel documented the scene and collected forensic evidence to support the investigation.
The body has been taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
