Two Women Arrested in Gulu Over State House, ISO Impersonation

Police in Gulu City are holding two women accused of posing as operatives from State House and the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) in an alleged bid to defraud officials.

The suspects, identified as Susan Acam, 42, and Susan Aguti, 50, both from Kampala, were detained on Tuesday afternoon after reportedly requesting fuel and food supplies from the Deputy Regional Police Commander for the Aswa West Region.

Regional police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong said the women’s behaviour raised suspicion, particularly as they claimed to be entitled to the supplies despite the police having no such provisions for individuals in their position.

“They requested fuel and food, claiming they were beneficiaries from the police. This raised suspicion because such provisions are not extended to people in those categories,” Mr Ongom told the press.

Police say the pair presented forged identification cards and were found with a police bond form from Lira Central Police Station, indicating they had previously been released in July over similar allegations. Investigators suspect the women committed a similar offence in Lira City last month, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

Officers are compiling the case file to present to the resident state attorney for legal advice before charges are formally filed in court.

Mr Ongom warned the public to be cautious when approached by individuals claiming to represent government agencies, saying such fraudsters often exploit trust to carry out their schemes.
