Man, 70, Arrested for Killing 77-Year-Old Brother in Kibuku

Police in Uganda’s Kibuku District have launched an investigation following the brutal killing of a 77-year-old man in what appears to be a domestic dispute.

The deceased, identified as Lawrence Sinini, was a resident of Natoto Central Village in Buseta Sub-county. According to police, Sinini was allegedly attacked while asleep at his home on the evening of 31 July 2025.

The suspect, Sebastian Mutundi, 70, who lives in the same village, is currently being held at Kibuku Central Police Station. His arrest was confirmed by Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa.

Local reports suggest that the attack happened shortly after the victim returned from a nearby bar. Witnesses allege that Mutundi used a hoe to strike Sinini on the head before inflicting further injuries to his neck and arms.

The incident was first reported by the area LC1 Chairperson, who responded quickly by locking the suspect in the room to prevent him from fleeing and alerting the authorities.

Police, led by District Police Commander SP Dickens Turyatemba, alongside homicide detectives and crime scene experts, visited the location. Investigators recovered a bloodstained hoe believed to have been used in the attack, and statements were taken from local witnesses and family members.

Sinini’s body was taken to Kibuku Health Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities say inquiries are ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing and the events leading up to it.
