Pallisa Man Kills Father Over Family Dispute, Runs Away

Police in Pallisa District are searching for a 38-year-old man accused of murdering his father after a long-standing family feud, reportedly tied to the father’s past separation from the suspect’s mother.

The suspect, James Obura, is alleged to have assaulted his father, Joseph Opulusi, 63, on June 11, 2025, in Agurur Village, Amoni Parish, Obutet Sub-county.

According to ASP Wilfred Kyempasa, spokesperson for the Bukedi North region, Opulusi was tending to his goats when his son ambushed and repeatedly struck him on the head.

“The victim’s cries for help alerted nearby residents, who intervened. He later reported the attack to the Gogonyo Police Post but collapsed shortly after,” Mr. Kyempasa said.

Opulusi was initially taken to a local health center, then Pallisa General Hospital, and later transferred to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, where he died from his injuries on June 17.

What was first treated as an assault case has now been reclassified as murder under case number PAL CRB 250/2025.

Kyempasa noted that the incident likely stemmed from unresolved anger over the father’s separation from the suspect’s mother years earlier.

“We suspect deep-rooted family grievances played a role in this violent outburst. The suspect is currently at large, and our teams are actively working to track him down,” he said.

Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help locate Obura.

The incident has stunned the local community, with residents voicing alarm over the tragic breakdown in family relations.
