Cedric, the son of seasoned politician Captain Francis Babu and businesswoman Olive Zaitun Kigongo, rose to fame in Uganda in the early 2000s. He initially gained recognition as a charismatic television host, known for his natural presence and communication skills.
Before his media career, Cedric made a name for himself in tennis, representing Uganda at national and international levels and eventually captaining the country’s Davis Cup team. Later, he served as President of the Uganda Tennis Association, where he championed grassroots development and efforts to reconnect Uganda with global tennis competitions.
Beyond sports, Cedric was a trailblazer in Uganda’s creative and corporate sectors. In 2010, he launched Kinetic Management Group (KMG), one of the country’s pioneering talent management agencies. Through KMG, he mentored artists, collaborated with non-profits and corporate clients, and promoted the creative industry as a catalyst for national development. The firm quickly became a launchpad for emerging talents in entertainment, sports, and public life.
Cedric also left a mark in acting, playing the role of Stephen Amaru in the Ugandan drama series Beneath the Lies, which broadened his influence, especially among Kampala’s urban youth.
In 2021, he entered politics, contesting for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat. Although unsuccessful, his campaign—which focused on youth empowerment, digital innovation, and the creative economy—was widely praised for energizing the political conversation among young voters.
A globally educated thinker, Cedric studied in Kenya, Uganda, the UK, and the US, ultimately earning a degree in International Business Administration from the University of Florida. Friends and colleagues described him as driven, patriotic, and passionate about mentoring young people.
His sudden illness earlier this month triggered a national outpouring of support, with public figures, media personalities, and sports organizations rallying to aid his recovery.
Funeral details have not yet been released, but the family has pledged to honor Cedric’s memory with the respect and dignity he deserves.
He leaves behind a young family and a rich legacy spanning sports, media, politics, and entertainment—proof of a life lived with energy, impact, and purpose.
