The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has officially dismissed Sheikh Huzaima Magumba from his position as District Kadhi of Bugweri Muslim District due to allegations of presenting forged academic documents.
The dismissal, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a letter dated May 26, 2025, signed by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje. The decision follows a complaint from members of the Bugweri Muslim community who questioned the authenticity of Sheikh Magumba’s Thanawi certificate—a crucial academic qualification for the role.

According to the Mufti, an internal UMSC investigation confirmed that the certificate submitted by Sheikh Magumba was falsified.
“This act amounts to a grave breach of the UMSC Constitution, specifically Article 19(3)(b), which stipulates the minimum academic requirements for the office of District Kadhi,” the letter explained.
Consequently, Sheikh Magumba has been ordered to immediately vacate his position and hand over all UMSC property in his possession to the district chairperson.
Mufti Mubajje stated that the dismissal is part of efforts to protect the integrity and credibility of Muslim leadership in Uganda.
“This step is essential to promote honesty and accountability within our leadership structure and to sustain the confidence of the Muslim community in Bugweri and beyond,” he said.
The UMSC has yet to name a successor to Sheikh Magumba.
