Born on January 1, 1952, in Kewapwrang Village, Kapkoch Parish, Binyiny Sub-county (now Kween District), he served in Parliament from 2001 to 2011, representing Kween County.

His death was confirmed by family members, and news of his passing quickly spread throughout the Sebei Sub-region. Rev. David Siwa of All Saints Church in Kapchorwa, where Dr. Yekko was an active member, paid tribute to him, describing him as a man of wisdom, faith, and compassion.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of Dr. Yekko. His influence touched many, and he will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and community,” Rev. Siwa said. “His memory and example will continue to inspire us all. We extend our prayers to the family during this difficult time.”

Dr. Yekko’s educational path began at Kokwmurya Primary School in Kapchorwa. He then attended Teso College Aloet for secondary school before enrolling at Makerere University to study medicine. He later earned a master’s degree in surgery management from Leeds University in the UK.

Before joining politics, he served as a medical superintendent in Bundibugyo and Kapchorwa hospitals from 1979 to 1989. His political journey began in 1989 when he became a member of the National Resistance Council, representing Kween County, which was then part of Kapchorwa District.

After losing the 1996 parliamentary race to the late Maikut Chebet, he returned to serve at Kapchorwa Hospital while rebuilding his political base. He regained the Kween County seat in 2001 and served until 2011, when he lost to Abdi Chemaswet Kisos, now MP for Soi County.

Following his political career, Dr. Yekko retired into private medical practice. By the evening of May 12, his family was finalizing burial and funeral arrangements.
