The truck, which was overloaded with livestock and people seated on top, rolled over—causing fatalities and severe injuries at the scene.

SP Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, said the accident underscores the consequences of violating traffic rules.

“Nine lives were lost and three others injured because of brake failure and the unsafe practice of transporting passengers with cargo,” Kananura said. “Truck drivers must follow safety guidelines and avoid carrying people on top of goods.”

Police have launched a full investigation and are working to identify the victims and notify their families. The injured have been hospitalized for treatment.

Kananura called for stricter compliance with road safety measures, especially among commercial and heavy vehicle drivers.

“Let’s value human life by putting safety first,” he added, urging cooperation from both the public and transport sector.
