Although the cause of death was not disclosed, the Archdiocese stated that burial details would follow and called on the faithful to keep Monsignor Magembe in their prayers. He had been unwell for a considerable time, with false death rumors previously spreading in January 2025.
A towering figure in Uganda’s Catholic community, Monsignor Magembe served as the chief exorcist of the Archdiocese and was renowned for his passionate preaching and powerful spiritual leadership. Celebrated for his 50 years of priesthood in 2024, he was especially known for drawing Catholics back to the Church through his Sangaalo prayer sessions and deliverance ministry at Mount Sion.
In addition to his pastoral work, Monsignor Magembe was a distinguished liturgical composer, credited with nearly 1,000 hymns. His contributions to sacred music earned him the Cherubim Musical Honor in 2024, placing him among Uganda’s most influential Catholic musicians, alongside Fr. James Kabuye and Rev. Fr. Joseph Namukangula.
With his signature crucifix and large rosary, Monsignor Magembe became a symbol of unwavering devotion. His enduring legacy of faith, healing, and music will continue to inspire generations within and beyond Uganda’s Catholic Church.
