“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of our son Rajiv’s passing early this morning,” the family stated, requesting privacy as they mourn their loss.

Rajiv, aged 35, lost his life early Saturday morning when his high-speed Nissan GTR crashed into unmarked concrete barriers on the Kajjansi–Munyonyo road. The car flipped and caught fire, killing him instantly. He had just returned from London and was heading to Kampala to take part in a close friend’s wedding, where he was to be a groomsman.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread sorrow and public criticism over road safety, especially the absence of adequate warning signs around construction areas. By Saturday evening, government authorities responsible for roads and infrastructure had yet to issue an official statement.

Seen as the successor to the Ruparelia Group—an expansive business conglomerate with interests in real estate, banking, education, and hospitality—Rajiv leaves behind a young daughter.

A vigil is currently taking place at the family’s residence in Kololo, Kampala, until the cremation.
